Formation Past continuous:

Was/ Were + Verb (base) + ING

Ce temps s'applique notamment aux actions/ événements qui sont censé.e.s avoir duré ou censé.e.s être en cours de déroulement dans le passé. Le Past continuous permet ainsi de décrire ces actions ou événements dans le passé.

Lorsqu'il s'agit de deux actions simultanées dans la même phrase, il faut appliquer Past continuous des deux côtés.

Mais lorsque l'une des deux actions est antérieure à l'autre, il faut mettre l'action qui est antérieure au Past continuous et la deuxième action au Simple past.
