3. In 1833, the Mexican government rejected the attempt by Texans to create their own Constitution.
4. In 1821, Mexico became independent from Spain.
5. In the beginning of 1836, the first battle between Texans and Mexicans took place at an old mission that was used as a fort: the Alamo. The Texans were defeated.
6. Before 1821, Spain owned a large part of North America, including Texas.
7. In April 1836, during the battle of San Jacinto, General Sam Houston won against the Mexicans and made them sign a treaty. It was the end of the war.
