On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks boarded a bus. She refused to obey driver James Blake's order and asked him to stand up and make way for the white man. She was arrested and jailed. The next day, a young pastor, Martin Luther King, launched a boycott against the bus company. The boycott lasted for over a year and eventually ended with the Supreme Court's abolition of apartheid law on buses. Rosa Parks has fought for racial equality her whole life. Its resistance that day in December 1955 is still a powerful symbol of the United States' struggle against apartheid.
