The Simpsons are a family who live at 742 Evergreen Terrace, in the city of Springfield, United States . Homer, the father, works as a safety inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, a position he holds despite his reckless and buffooning nature. He is married to the stereotypical American mother and housewife Marge Simpson. They have three children: Bart, a 10-year-old troublemaker; Lisa, an 8-year-old gifted with early political involvement, and Maggie, a baby who rarely speaks but communicates by sucking on a pacifier. The family owns a dog, Petit Papa Noël (Le P'tit Renne au nez rouge, in Quebec), and a cat, Boule de Neige V, renamed Boule de Neige II in the Robotflop episode. These two pets have had featured roles in several episodes themselves. Despite the indications of time passing, such as holidays, parties or birthdays, the death of certain characters or divorces, the characters never get old and look the same as they did in the late 1980s. Although The Simpsons are a problematic family, several episodes examine their relationships and often show that they take care of each other .
